Engineering

• The Engineering Services Department oversees the Engineering, Planning, Zoning, Fire Prevention Bureau and Construction Code Departments. This department also administrates the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment. Close coordination is also maintained with the Agricultural Task Force, Community Service, Environmental Commission, Kennedy-Martin-Stelle Farmstead Project, and Shade Tree Commission.

• The Engineering Department administrates all land use and all construction work in the Township. The land use areas reviews range from an individual resident's zoning concern to the review of large-scale residential and commercial projects. The site inspection staff reviews all development and Township construction. The Engineering staff provides in-house designs for road maintenance, drainage, and bikeway/sidewalk programs.

Engineering Projects Completed in 2011

• During the spring, storm inlet repairs and sanitary manhole repairs were completed throughout the Township.

• The Department paved four miles of road during the summer of 2011. The roads include:
  • Allen Street
  • Dayton Street
  • Emily Road
  • Hillside Terrace
  • Lee Place
  • Mountain Road (received $200,000 of funding through the NJDOT Local Aid Program)
  • Owens Court
  • Post Terrace

• Approximately 13,400 square feet of deteriorated asphalt and concrete sidewalks were replaced on Walnut Circle, Tanglewood Lane, South Finley Avenue, and South Maple Avenue.

• The Department made improvements to the frontage of the Police Station to improve accessibility. The improvements consisted of a widened parking stall with an access aisle, curb ramp, new crosswalk, and new sidewalk to the front entrance of the building.

• Storm sewer and drainage improvements were completed on Harcourt Lane, Manchester Drive, and Wedgewood Drive.
